LIVE UNITED on Capitol Hill

A message from United Way of America and Council of States:

"On behalf of United Way of America and the Council of States, we would like to thank the 200 United Way staff and volunteers, organizational partners, and 2-1-1 professionals who came to Washington, DC to storm Capitol Hill.  Counting the Congressional office “drop-ins” by our enthusiastic participants, we visited more than 350 House and Senate offices.  The Members of Congress and staff who attended the meetings were impressed to see our presence and really appreciated hearing from their constituents.

2009 United Way Capitol Hill Day was a rousing success—but there is no way we could have executed anything on this scale without your Herculean efforts.  You are to be commended for your willingness to travel to D.C. in an effort to Advance the Common Good in Education, Income, Health and advocate for priorities like 2-1-1.  We believe that advocacy events like this one, both at the federal and state level, will significantly raise the profile of the United Way movement and advance our position as a key player in policy.  To view/download Advancing the Common Good: United Way Policy Agenda for the 111th Congress, please click here.

Our work is not done.  We will continue to follow-up with Members of Congress about our national goals in Education, Income and Health and we are going work to pass H.R.211/S.211, The Calling for 2-1-1 Act, this Congress.  If you missed Hill Day, don’t worry; you will hear from us about follow-up opportunities to capitalize on the momentum we have created.  Additionally, you can keep up to date on cosponsor progress by visiting United Way's Legislative Action Center.  We will especially need help from United Ways and 2-1-1 centers in the 17 states NOT represented at Hill Day.  With your continued support, we are going to have a significant impact on the direction of federal policy and the investment of our tax dollars.

Thank you again for all your hard work!"
