Alternative Spring Breaks have repeatedly demonstrated the capacity to catalyze a Student United Way by making a difference in a host community while also building the bonds and commitment of a group that in turn can foster the growth of Student United Way back on campus. Impact Exchange ASBs can take place at a variety of towns and cities across the country and focus on that area’s specific community impact agenda priorities. This flexibility coupled with the energy, enthusiasm and commitment of young adults makes for a powerful ASB that your Student United Way will talk about for years to come.
In addition to volunteering daily throughout the week, volunteers will:
- Work with a group of dedicated peers who share your passion for making a difference in the lives of others.
- Explore another community – beyond the traditional tourist trips, getting a true sense of the people and the place.
- Have one of the most rewarding, remarkable weeks of your life.
Here’s how it works:
- If your Student United Way has not already responded to the Impact Exchange survey, complete a copy by clicking here.
- Once you’ve completed the survey, United Way will pair your Student United Way with a host community United Way to begin to develop plans for your Spring Break experience.
- Your local United Way (the one with which you work year-round on your campus-based activities) will identify Team Leaders who will participate in a robust training program that will give them all the information, resources and tools they need to plan and execute a powerful, gratifying and exciting Alternative Spring Break Program.
- Each participant will work as a part of the team to manage the logistics of the ASB Program; to secure the resources needed to cover all program costs (Don’t worry! We’ll give you tools and coaching to make it an easy, fun and effective process.), and to prepare for your departure to your host community!
- Your Student United Way ASB team will travel together for an incredible ASB next Spring.
Each participant in a Student United Way Impact Exchange ASB needs to complete the online application by clicking here. This information will be forwarded to each Student United Way ASB’s Team Leaders as well as to your host United Way.
If you are interested in participating as an unaffiliated individual (not connected to a Student United Way), please apply to the National ASB program in Biloxi, MS by clicking here.
If you are the proposed Team Leader for your Student United Way’s Impact Exchange ASB, complete the Team Leader application here.
