Alternative Spring Break

During Spring Break 2010, hundreds of young adults and student volunteers from across the United States will trade swimming trunks for tool belts and team up with United Way to make a meaningful impact in communities across the country. From continuing to rebuild the Gulf Coast after hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Ike, to addressing the issues plaguing urban America, volunteers will roll up their sleeves to get things done.

• National ASB program – March 28^th – April 3^rd, 2010 in Biloxi, Mississippi.  More than four years after Katrina, hundreds of families have a long way to go to get back into their homes. United Way of South Mississippi is working to remedy this problem and put a roof over the heads of displaced families, while also helping to address basic community needs that existed before the storm ever touched the Gulf Coast.  Join the United Way’s effort to help rebuild the Mississippi Gulf Coast by clicking here.
• Impact Exchange –Student United Ways will partner with communities across the country to conduct their own ASB Program and significantly expand the scale and scope of United  Way’s Alternative Spring Break Program.  If you are a volunteer with a Student United Way and want the opportunity to plan an Alternative Spring Break responding to the issues facing communities in the Pacific Northwest, rebuilding homes in the Greater New Orleans Area, or addressing educational achievement gaps in urban America, click here
  
• Team Leader ASB Opportunity – All ASB alumni have the chance to make an even more significant impact and help increase the scope and scale of ASB by signing up as an ASB Team Leader.  Across the country, volunteers from Student  United Ways will join other young adults to demonstrate the power of young people to make a significant impact.  Last year, hundreds of volunteers contributed more than 12,000 hours in Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi and Texas.  To see some of their remarkable accomplishments:
